Home Sweet Home!

Hi everybody.

We are home from the USA and are in day number 10 of our voluntary 14 day isolation as I type this post. We got home the day before the mandatory 14 days of isolation order came down from our BC Health Minister. The government order pertains to people who have just returned from travel outside Canada….this includes returning from the USA.

With my MS which is autoimmune, and Paul’s age, we thought it best for both of us to hunker down. We plan to stay home for as long as it takes for this virus to fizzle out….days, weeks, months…..whatever it takes.

I must express my sincere gratitude to those who are still required to work while we all close ourselves in. I am so relieved to have been able to get online grocery shopping and delivery. That is how I restocked my home when we got home. I ordered the groceries as we were driving north on I-5 through Washington. When we got home the groceries were delivered the next day. We have not and will not be going anywhere outside of our home other than a quick “socially distant” dog walk.

And while I am expressing thanks……I am grateful for the medical professionals working the front lines, the scientists and others working 24 hours a day trying to create a vaccine or a cure. I am grateful for the farmers who grow the food we eat, the truckers who deliver it, the grocery store employees, delivery people etc. I am grateful for our government leaders. In BC our health ministers deserve SO MUCH PRAISE for all they are doing to get the message across. It takes a village!

We have all witnessed people doing things that help to SPREAD the virus. Why can’t people “play by the rules”. Why aren’t the parents of all of the college and university students who are partying like there is nothing going on in this world pulling their kids home so as not to add to the problem. It’s not just the young people. I ask….why can’t adults follow easy instructions? “STAY HOME”! IT’S SIMPLE. Stop spreading this deadly virus while you bounce about out in public with nary a care. As of this evenings BC news, people can be fined $2000 for not doing what is required….social distancing. Get with the program people!!!!!! Just because you might be fit and strong doesn’t mean the people you cross paths with have the same immunity you have. It’s not going to be easy but it has to be done. There is no alternative.

In conversation with a friend, we talked about this virus being sent to our world as a RESET. I started thinking this way when the multimillionaire athletes were removed from their playing fields.

I must share what my friend got today and shared with me….please read it as many times as you need to. Share it…talk about it. It’s deep but it’s thought provoking. The author of this is thinking along the same lines as my friend and I.

Here goes……

“What if … we subscribe to the philosophy that life is always working out for us, that there is an intelligence far greater than humans at work. That all is interconnected.

What if … the virus is here to help us?

To reset.

To remember what is truly important.

Reconnecting with family and community.

Reducing travel so that the environment, the skies, the air, our lungs all get a break.

Parts of China are seeing blue sky and clouds for the first time in forever with the factories being shut down.

Working from home rather than commuting to work (less pollution, more personal time).

Reconnecting with family as there is more time.

An invitation to turn inwards — a deep meditation — rather than the usual extroverted going out to self-soothe.

To reconnect with self — what is really important to me?

A reset economically.

How hard does one need to work to be able to live, to have a life outside of work?

And, washing our hands — how did that become a “new” thing that we needed to remember? But, yes, we did need to.

The presence of Grace for all.

There is a shift underway in our society — what if it is one that is favorable for us?

What if this virus is an ally in our evolution?

In our remembrance of what it means to be connected, humane, living a simpler life, to be less impactful, more kind to our environment.

An offering from my heart this today.  Offered as another perspective. Another way of relating to this virus, this unfolding, this evolution.

It was time for a change, we all knew that.

And, change has arrived.”

Stay healthy everyone. Let’s hope and pray and play by the rules. And most importantly….wash your hands, don’t touch your face and practice “social distancing. God Bless.
