Camu Camu

Camu Camu is a funny name but not a funny food.    It is an orangey red tart tasting fruit about the same size as a lemon, primarily grown in Peru and Brazil.

What does it have to offer?  How about extremely high amounts of Vitamin C…in fact more vitamin C than any other food.  This superfood has around 50 times more vitamin C than an orange.

Vitamin C is a necessary immunity booster carrying benefits throughout the body.  Vitamin C helps fight inflammation, protects against free radicals and viral attacks such as cold and flu.  Vitamin C helps with wound healing and helps strengthen your skeleton and your teeth.

We should strive to consume as much vitamin C as possible and from natural sources.  I think Camu Camu is the “ticket”.  Not only is it very high in vitamin C but it also contains potassium, manganese, copper, carotenoids, flavonoids, essential amino acids, and fiber.

Studies have shown that Camu Camu has so many benefits.

  •  boosts brain function
  • immune boosting
  • reduces risk of dementia
  • helps with muscle growth
  • a digestive aid
  • lowers risk of obesity, Type 2 Diabetes
  • C has been used in cancer prevention and treatment
  • Helps to heal ailments such as cold sores, shingles, cold and flu
  • anti-inflammatory
  • natural energy booster
  • great for eye health improving and protecting against macular degeneration
  • supports healthy gums (gum disease is helped taking 2 tsps of Camu Camu per day)
  • mood boosting
  • detoxification and healing
  • improves liver health
  • boosts heart health

Camu Camu is not sold in it’s whole form in North America but you can find it in powder form great for adding to smoothie’s and other foods such as added to yogurt, oatmeal, cereals etc.   You can also find Camu Camu in capsule form at your local health food store selling supplements.

Vitamin C is good for us.  Start adding Camu Camu powder to your daily regime.  The benefits are plentiful.

I told you it has a funny name but it’s a seriously healthy fruit.
