We all wear them. And thank goodness for that…right?
But is your bra helping you or causing harm to your body?
Many doctors and scientists have reported that snug fitting bras can cut off the important lymph drainage around your breasts and underarms which can eventually lead to breast cancer. Now that is a scary notion isn’t it!!!!
I have read articles about this danger before but never really took heed of the warnings until recently. This winter I underwent my annual breast thermography exam as I do not go for mammography which is a personal choice. (you can read a previous article on my site about Breast Thermography Vs. Mammography) A small area of question showed up on the thermography so I went for ultrasound to rule out any thing troublesome. Thankfully my ultrasound came back clear. The ultrasound technician told me to get rid of the wires from all of my bras and so did the technician who read my thermography. So…I immediately went home and cut out the wires from all of my bras.
According to Dr. Michael Schacter M.D., in an article called “The Prevention and Complementary Treatment of Breast Cancer”: Over 85 percent of the lymph fluid flowing from the breast drains to the armpit lymph nodes. Most of the rest drains to the nodes along the breast bone. Bras and other external tight clothing can impede flow.
According to Dr. John McDougall, M.D., one of my favorite gurus, “Constricting bras have also been implicated in the rise of benign (non-cancerous) but often painful breast cysts and lumps. After repeated bouts of inflammation, the breasts develop scar tissue in many places, and some milk ducts become plugged, forming cysts. Fibrocystic breast disease, not surprisingly, is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer.”
The underwire bras are the worst culprits. The wires make the bras fit super tightly under the breast definitely blocking lymph drainage. Not only that, there is what is called “The Antenna Effect” named by Dr. George Goodheart, known as the father of Applied Kinesiology. Those wires in your bra conduct electromagnetic frequency (EMF) which are rampant in our high tech wireless society. Yikes.
According to an article on Dr. Mercola’s website, women who wore bras for 24 hours a day had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer. Women who wore their bras more than 12 hours a day were at a 1 out of 7 risk and women who wore bras less than 12 hours had a 1 out of 52 risk and women who rarely wore bras or never wore bras had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer. Is that not a scary bit of statistical information.
I have snipped all of my bras with scissors and removed the underwire parts and what a relief. Seriously. The bra is definitely more comfortable and I am at ease knowing my bras are not sending EMF’s through my body or cutting off my lymph drainage. I faithfully dry brush every morning to help that lymph drainage and am happy to know that my bras are now not impeding that flow.
Who would have thought this could be an issue.
Life is about choices and living with the results of our choices. I think that getting rid of the underwire is a good choice for me.
Just one more thing to add to your “health arsenal” to help you remain healthy.
