Rooibos Tea

Rooibos tea is herbal tea from South Africa.  When I went to Africa a few years ago on a Safari I enjoyed African Red Bush Tea (Rooibos) daily instead of my usual green tea.  My sweetie was a coffee drinker and he also enjoyed the flavor and health promoting benefits of Rooibos while in Africa.

You don’t have to be in Africa to enjoy this wonderful energizing, healthy beverage.  You can find Rooibos tea in any health store or large grocery store with a health and wellness section.  You will likely find it in coffee houses or tea rooms too.  Rooibos tea comes in red or green but the red bush is the most common.  Rooibos tea is a brown colour in the cup.  It is earthy and has a hint of sweetness to the taste.  You don’t have to add anything to this tasty cup of tea to make it more pleasing.  It is delicious and makes a great coffee alternative.

Rooibos has antioxidants like other herbal teas and makes it a popular beverage with health seeking people such as myself.   Rooibos is caffeine free so you can enjoy it anytime of the day and not have to worry about any caffeine effects on your sleep or your nervous system.  This tea is plentiful in mineral content too.  You will be taking in iron, calcium, potassium, copper, manganese, zinc, magnesium and others.

This wonderful tea abounds with health benefits such as:

– being an anti-inflammatory

– reduces heart disease with protection from ACE inhibitors

– has quercetin which is known to have cancer fighting qualities

– Immune system enhancer

– helps to ease nervous tension, fights insomnia

– is good for your teeth and bones

– eases stomach cramps and helps with digestion

– lowers blood pressure

– is supportive to your liver tissue

And so much more.

Making ice-tea from Rooibos tea is a good idea too as the tea is a wonderful thirst quencher.

I recommend you give it a try and if you like it…add it to your daily fluid intake.  The benefits are vast, the taste is great and it is a much wiser choice than coffee or cola.

There is nothing quite like sitting down to a hot, health promoting cup of tea.  It is my favorite time of the day.
